From the beginning |
Where we are now |
The United States Air Force became a separate military service on September 18, 1947 with the implementation of the National Security Act of 1947. This created the National Military Establishment, which was later renamed to the U.S. Department Of Defense, consisting of four of the now five branches of military.
In the early 1900’s, only Europe was knowledgeable enough for aircrafts, but it didn’t take the United States long to catch up. In 1939, the Air Corp consisted of only 20,000 men and 2,400 planes. Expansion during World War 2 raised both of those numbers to 2.4 million men and 80,000 aircrafts. According to the Evolution of the Department of the Air Force, during this expansion the AAF became the world’s most powerful air force. Due to its successes, the Air Force finally became its own branch. It reached its peak during the years of 1985-1986, with an annual spending of 97 billion dollars and over 600,000 men. The Air Force continued to help in times of need and steadily has grown into what it is today. |
Today, the Air Force is one of the fastest growing branches. There are currently almost 100 base locations, including over 70 right here in the United States. If you’re looking to get out for awhile, there are 6 bases im Europe including Germany and Italy and 4 bases in Asia. There’s a location for everyone.
Not only is the Air Force providing you with a variety of skills, but there’s a specific career for anyone. With over 130 different career fields ranging from aircraft and flight, to engineering, to health, to even law enforcement, you’re sure to find the perfect fit. |
